Munro hammered a 48-ball 68, finding the fence nine times, and going over it once. It helped power Trinbago Knight Riders to an eye-catching 100-run victory over St Lucia Stars.

It was, by Munro’s standards, a measured knock – his strike-rate of 141.66 was significantly lower than his T20I strike-rate of 163.59. It was still an exhilarating one, though.

Even as Sunil Narine, Brendon McCullum and Darren Bravo fell all around him, Munro kept going big, and was particularly vindictive against Qais Ahmed, whose last four balls in the ninth over yielded 18 runs, including three fours and a six.

With Munro helping the Knight Riders post 195/6, the Stars faced a daunting chase they never looked likely to topple. And sure enough, Dwayne Bravo and Fawad Ahmed returned three wickets apiece, as the Stars were bundled out for 95 in 17.3 overs.

Munro won the Player of the Match award, after which he rather delightfully said: “The last thing my daughter told me was win a trophy. This [bottle of 21-year old rum] is probably a better gift.”

Munro played eight matches for Hampshire in the T20 Blast last month, and averaged just 26.37. However, there were a couple of notable hits, including the 63 and 58 he scored against Middlesex in two outings.

Munro doesn’t mind the inconsistency, though. It brings the best out of his game. “Been given the licence to go out and play,” Munro later said. “It comes off sometimes, doesn't at other times.”

After Munro was dismissed, Denesh Ramdin walked in and powered a 27-ball 50* to further boost the Knight Riders. “Ramdin coming out the way he did, and play like he did, always helps. This is pretty close to a complete performance," said Munro.
