Cricket PNG's Eastern Highlands BSP School Kriket Program officially commenced its 2012 BSP School Kriket Program at West Goroka Primary School on Thursday.

The Eastern Highlands BSP School Kriket program was officially launched by Goroka Branch Manager Mr. Reuben Elijah, who bowled the first ball to a student from West Goroka Primary School.

The school was painted green, with students from Grade 3, Grade 4 and Grade 5 all receiving green BSP shirts and participating in the first BSP School Kriket Program for 2012.

Regional Cricket Manager Mr. Rupert Warigi, has been working hard with his team over the Christmas period to ensure an even bigger and better year in 2012.

"Last year we had a very slow start with our program, this year we need to start strongly, having planned for over 3000 students to participate in our program each term," said Mr Warigi.

Mr. Reuben Elijah spoke at the launching ceremony, stressing his belief that in some circumstances, the best place to learn is outside the classroom.

"There are so many things that you learn outside the classroom that cannot be learnt inside, I think the BSP School Kriket Program gives students the opportunity to learn practical skills in a fun and enjoyable setting," he said.

The Eastern Highlands Development Team will be working hard during term 1, running programs at Nupaha Primary School; Goroka International School; Mando Primary School; Oliguti Primary School; Lufa Primary School; Goroka Secondary School; West Goroka Primary School; Nupuru Primary School; Yonki Primary School; Wali Elementary School; Y.C. Elementary School; Ginitoka Primary School; Goroka Prep School and Rintebe Primary and Secondary Schools.
