Fiji women's championship from 10 Jan
Over 70 of Fiji's best female cricketers will assemble for the second ever National tournament in Suva from 10-14 January.
The tournament will be played at Albert Park and will see five teams taking part from around Fiji, including Suva, Nadi, Lautoka, Lomary and Moce.
The first three days will involve Twenty20 matches, with a final on 12 January, followed by 50-over games on 13 and 14 January.
The tournament will double as selection trials for the Fiji national women?s team which will play in an international tour to Vanuatu in April.
This will be a tri-series between the national Vanuatu team and Hastings River team from northern New South Wales in Australia.
Cricket Fiji high performance manager Stephen Jenkin said next week?s tournament would be a great chance to see how women?s cricket in Fiji has progressed over the last year.
?Women?s cricket has only been played in this country for 18 months so it is very exciting that we have managed to get five teams into this year?s national tournament,? Jenkin said.
?The girls have all been working really hard even though most of them have only been playing the game for less than two years.
?This is a great opportunity for them to show what they have learnt and vie for a place in the national team to have the opportunity to represent their country.?
Suva will play Moce and Lomary will meet Lautoka on the opening morning of the tournament on 10 January.
The Fiji women's national team will be named after the conclusion of the tournament.
