Kabara Set for Fiji Easter Debut
Kabara cricket teams entry into this year's LICI Cricket Fiji Easter Tournament is the realisation of a long-term dream for their players and coaching staff.
Having only arrived this week, Kabara Coach Tuiketei Vilisoni and his team immediately made their way to Albert Park, to continue their training and preparing for the competition.
Cricket Fiji have spent the last year assisting Kabara in setting up their association, getting their teams organized.
This included sending their Development Officer based in Lau to Kabara to work with the coaches and players on the Island.
"Kabara have demonstrated how the relationship between governing body and association should work, they have worked really hard to get to the point of entering a team and we hope they enjoy the experience, learn from it and hopefully produce players capable of playing for Fiji," said Cricket Fiji CEO Jon Symonds.
Manager Marika Filimoni said the team is excited to be here in Suva and to be competing in the Easter tournament for the first time.
"This is the first year we've come, and so we've come to learn," he said.
"We've spent two weeks in camp at Tokalau, where we practised in the morning and the afternoon. There's also club competition on Wednesdays."
"We're looking forward to participating in the tournament," said Kabara Liaison Officer Manueli Bese. "It will be a great experience for all members of the team to play in the tournament and be part of the great atmosphere of the competition."
"It's an eye-opener for them to participate and see the crowds and it'll be a good experience for the next time they participate."
12 local Association and overseas teams will compete on the international LICI Cricket Fiji Easter Tournament that will run from 2-9 April this year. The prestigious Cricket Fiji annual awards will also be held during the week, on Saturday 7 April, to recognize the best from across the nation.
The draw for the tournament will be released next week.
