Madrid CC and UNICEF team up to knock HIV/AIDS among children for six
Madrid Cricket Club is delighted to announce everything is now in place for the 1st Solidarity Cricket Tournament, to be held at the "Cantarranas" sports facilities at the Complutense University in central Madrid on Saturday October 6th.
Madrid Cricket Club has teamed up with Unicef Madrid to support its global "Unite for Children, Unite for Aids" campaign aimed at combating HIV/AIDS among children. The Madrid tournament ties in with the recent global agreement reached by the International Cricket Council and Unicef.
Four teams and players from eight countries will take part in the Twenty20 tournament next Saturday: Great Britain, Pakistan, Bangladesh and a Rest of the World Select XI featuring players from five countries including South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, India and Spain. The aim of the tournament, apart from a great day of cricket, is to raise funds for the Unicef campaign and awareness of the plight of thousands of children worldwide who suffer from HIV and/or Aids.
Madrid Cricket Club will provide the equipment and logistical know-how to host the tournament and will provide umpires, scorers and support staff on the day. Play begins at 9 am and continues all day, and the winners will be presented with the tournament trophy at 7 pm.
In addition, a raffle will be held to raise funds, and sponsorship from event partners such as British Airways, EasyJet, Kukri Sports, Estudiafuera and The Food Hall has been secured.
