Mauke Women's Cricket Team Confirmed
Off the back of a highly enjoyable cricket development trip to Mauke by Cook Islands development officer Amelia Moetaua the island has confirmed their involvement in January's Edgewater Women's Pacific Cup.
The Pacific Cup will be the biggest women's cricketing event the country has experienced and will see plenty of high caliber competitive matches.
With Rarotonga, Aitutaki and now Mauke confirmed it takes the number of teams to 4 with a New Zealand side making the trek over to play. The Mauke team will undoubtedly be filled with talent and will most likely include Cooks national squad members Amelia Moetaua, Bene Matapo and Raita Moetaua, and the inclusion of Rarotonga based Mauke cricketers Coloumba Allen and Sala Matapo.
Amelia Moetaua has already earmarked several Mauke residents for the team including left-armer Ngametua Teaka and the countries first genuine women's leg spinners Jane Tapoki and Ruta Teaka.
Moetaua spent extra time with the players on her recent development visit teaching the finer aspects of bowling and batting ? skills Moetaua has acquired through an already extensive exposure to high quality coaching and tournaments, primarily an international tournament and coaching from New Zealand's coaching guru Pat Malcon.
With a star studded line up Mauke look dangerous to take out the first Edgewater Cup. Cooks Cricket is continuing to work with more international teams with interest high amongst thirteen teams across Australia and New Zealand.
