Murali rallies behind Cricket PNG on World Aids Day
Cricket PNG along with National Coaching Director Andy Bichel and Sri Lanka's world record holder Muttiah Muralidaran, held a Supa Clinic in support of World AIDS Day on Wednesday.
At the official event at the Sir John Guise National Stadium, students from the Coronation Primary School put on a demonstration of ball and cricket skills. Cricket was the only sport represented at this prestigious occasion which was attended by the Prime Minister and numerous other dignatries.
Cricket PNG was delighted to be part of this event and the opportunity to support the National Aids Council.
According to Bill Leane, CEO Cricket PNG, this is an important social message that cricket can help deliver.
"Through our BSP School Kriket Program we have put more than 49,000 children through our 8 week course since June this year. We have the capacity through this progam to reach thousands of children and assist in increasing awareness of HIV/AIDS and way to prevent the spread of this disease through choosing a healthy lifestle." He said.
Later in the morning, an estimated 500 boys and girls from four schools in Papua New Guinea made their way to the home of Cricket PNG - Amini Park - to be part of the Supa Clinic at Amini Park.
International cricket stars Bichel, Greg Campbell and Murali were involved in the clinic, as the boys and girls were put through their paces learning about the skills of Cricket.
On top of the estimated 500 young people present at Amini Park, a further 100 boys and girls were also present at the morning's World AIDS Day festivities at the Sir John Guise National Stadium.
