T20 is the right format for Americas: Tarajia

Panama captain Irfan Tarajia is positive about his side's chances at the ICC Americas Division 2 tournament.

``Panama cricket team always have been positive as was evident in the last tournament. But in this tournament, Panama's chances are better because we play all cricket at our domestic level in the 25-over format. It is a dream come true for us get the opportunity to show our talent,'' said Tarajia.

The Panama captain is very concious of the history of the sport in his country and believes the Americas event will be another opportunity to showcase its growth.

``Cricket in Panama has been played for more than 30 years. Thanks to ICC and our board. cricket fever has started to increase. The ew generation has access to good ground and equipments. We have also recently started a two-division league. I think we need to keep working to maintain the base.''

For the tournament, Tarajia informs that the team will work around learning from the major teams of the sport.

``We will look at our combination very closely. Basically we will be influenced by Australia's bowling, South Africa's fielding, Sri Lanka's offensive approach and India's passion,'' added Tarajia.

Panama believes it has a strong opportunity to qualify for ICC World T20 2012.

``Honestly we consider that there is a high possibility to qualify for World T20. But first we need to focus on our promotion to Division 1. As soon we achieve that, I think the mentality of our players will change and we will get the confidence.''

Tarajia also welcomed the idea of a film crew showcasing every team's pathway to ICC World T20 2012.

``It is a strategic idea to promote cricket all around the world. It will mean a lot for our players too. It can also be used to market the game in a big way.''

Panama captain is hoping that the rich history of cricket in Americas will finally lead to growth thanks to this tournament.

``There is a rich history of cricket in the Americas. But we also need to know that there are other sports who are also making big investments in this part of the world, because they know this region is going to grow in double digits. I believe one way to be competitive in Americas is to raise the profile of the T20 format. As soon the people start liking this format, automatically they will be interested in the other formats as well. We need to focus on T20 for Americas,'' concluded Tarajia.
