Allan Border, Mark Taylor and Steve Waugh are joining an Australian cricket team performance review panel which will be chaired by eminent businessman Don Argus.

Former International Cricket Council and Australian Cricket Board CEO Malcolm Speed will be deputy chairman of the review team.

Cricket Australia's Board has commissioned a review to make recommendations on improving Australian team performance.

The review group has been asked to understand the causes of the Australian cricket team's recent performance decline in Test matches and recommend changes to deliver sustained success.

The process will include consultation, including interviews, with key stakeholders who have team or team support involvement and who have elite performance experience and expertise.

CA Chairman Jack Clarke said the review will focus on Australian team performance and aspects that affect performance.

The review has been asked to report in the second half of 2011 in time for recommendations to be considered before the 2011-12 Australian international cricket season.

CA CEO James Sutherland will act as ex-officio, non-voting member of the review.

"I am delighted a person of Don Argus' stature has agreed to chair this expert review group and the Board and I are also pleased that three such successful former captains, supported by a person of Malcolm Speed's international cricket experience, will be working on this review," Clarke said.

"In particular, the calibre of the cricket people who have agreed to be involved in the review is outstanding and means the total review group will be well placed to conduct a rigorous and independent review that results in fact-based recommendations to the Board".

The review will report to CA's Board and further public comment is not planned until the Board has had had a chance to consider recommendations before the start of next season, Clarke said.
