George Dockrell and Max Sorensen led Ireland to a 279-run victory against Netherlands on Day 3 of their four-day ICC Intercontinental Cup match in Deventer on Wednesday (July 3).
Dockrell, who had starred with the ball in the first innings as well, picked up 6 for 39 in his 13.2 overs in the second innings to return match figures of 9 for 71.
Earlier, Ireland, who resumed Day 3 at 68 for 4 with a lead of 252 runs, declared at 222 for 8. Andrew White top scored with 62 runs.
Chasing 407 with a session and a day to go, Netherlands failed to get a good start. Sorensen struck early, dismissing the openers Eric Szwarczynski and Lesley Stokkers early.
Dockrell then bowled a magical spell, dismissing Tom Cooper (26), Peter Borren (33) and Tim Gruijters (4) in under six overs, slumping Netherlands to 62 for 6.
Although Pieter Seelaar provided some resistance with a 46-ball 25, wickets continued to tumble as the last three wickets fell in three overs.
Netherlands next plays Canada in August and Ireland will play Namibia in September. Scotland, meanwhile, takes on Kenya in the next Intercontinental Cup clash on Sunday (July 7).
Brief Scores: Ireland 332 & 222/8 decl (Andrew White 62, John Mooney 42; Pieter Seelar 2-39, Tom Cooper 2-43) beat Netherlands 148 & 127 in 44.2 overs (Peter Borren 33, Tom Cooper 26; George Dockrell 6-39, Max Sorensen 3-32) by 279 runs.
