Player Bio

Born 15 February, 1956, Desmond Haynes was crucial to the West Indies’ two decades of dominance.

As determined and as tough as they came, Haynes played 116 Tests and 237 ODIs across his 16-year international career. He tallied an impressive 7487 runs at 42.49 in Test cricket, scoring 18 centuries along the way.. He scored a further 8648 runs at 41.37 and 17 centuries in ODIs, winning the World Cup in 1979.

Though capable of scoring freely when the mood suited him, more often he played the counterpoint to the aggressive Gordon Greenidge. As an opening combination, they were unrivalled from the late ‘70s to the early ‘90s. No opening pair have featured in more Test innings together than their 148 or scored more runs as a duo than their 6482.
