Born on June 27, 1980, in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, Kevin Pietersen carved out one of the most remarkable careers in international cricket after switching allegiance to England.
Right from the start of his career, Pietersen possessed the rare ability to take the game away from opponents, adept equally against pace and spin. He made a habit of delivering on the biggest stages for England, making him one of the most influential match-winners of his time.
Pietersen announced himself on the international stage in style during England's ODI tour of Zimbabwe and South Africa in 2004-05, with a series of centuries.
A year later, Pietersen cemented his place as one of world cricket's most exciting talents by winning Player of the Series in one of the most iconic Ashes series ever as England reclaimed the urn for the first time in 18 years.
Even in the latter stages of his career, Pietersen continued to deliver on the big stage. He was pivotal to England’s first Test series triumph in India for 27 years, highlighted by a masterclass against spin in Mumbai, and averaged 60 in England’s first Ashes victory in Australia for 24 years.
He also played a pivotal role in some of the team's most memorable white-ball victories, including their maiden ICC Men's T20 World Cup triumph in 2010, for which he won Player of the Tournament.
