Few captains have shaped Indian cricket quite like Sourav Ganguly. Combining elegant strokeplay with a fearless attitude, the 'God of the Off Side', as he was called, scored 18,575 international runs in 424 matches and laid the foundation for one of India's most successful eras.

Player Bio

Born on 8 July 1972 in Calcutta, Sourav Ganguly made his ODI debut in 1992, but it wasn’t until 1996 that he made his mark for India in international cricket. When he did, he became only the third player to score a debut Test hundred at Lord's and followed it up with 136 at Trent Bridge, becoming only the third batter to score centuries in each of his first two Test innings.

One of the most elegant left-handers to play the modern game, Sourav Ganguly was grit and fearlessness personified all at the same time. In a career that spanned 16 years, he accumulated 18,575 runs and 38 centuries across Tests and ODIs. He was also the man with a golden arm for India, snaring 100 ODI wickets to go with 11,000+ runs. He is also one of only five players to achieve the unique ODI treble of 10,000 runs, 100 wickets and 100 catches

As a captain, he ushered in a new era of Indian cricket by taking the team through troubled times, while also inspiring a generation of players and laying the foundation for one of the team's most successful periods. He led India to memorable wins, including the epic 2001 Border-Gavaskar series win in India and the famous chase against England in the NatWest Series in 2002, apart from leading India to the final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup.
