One year to go! Watch Alyssa Healy claim Guinness World Records title

T20 WC 2020

As tickets go on sale a year out from the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Alyssa Healy has ensured the tournament is already a part of the record books. WATCH NOW!

One year out from the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia, Alyssa Healy has set the bar high for what’s to come in 2020 with a Guinness World Records title. Healy’s reliable gloves were tested like no one before her as the ICC T20 International Player of the Year for 2018 claimed the world record for the ‘highest catch of a cricket ball’.

Alyssa Healy claims Guinness World Records title

A winner of four previous T20 World Cups, Healy says there is huge excitement around the group for Australia to host the event for the first time and with tickets going on sale from midday Thursday 21 February 2019 (AEDT), she is hoping the record plays a part in inspiring the country to get behind the Southern Stars.

“It's a nice correlation between what the ICC and Cricket Australia are trying to work towards in breaking the world record for attendance at a women’s sporting fixture for the final on International Women’s Day,” Healy said

"It was a thrill to be part of a world record"

“It was a thrill to be part of a world record so, for everyone out there in Australia and around the world that wants to do the same thing, it’s easy for everyone to jump online and buy tickets to be part of something special.”

“Hopefully the whole of Australia get behind it!”

As for the record itself, Healy was not always confident of breaking the mark of 62 metres set by Kristan Baumgartner in the United Kingdom in 2016, and previously held by former England captain Nasser Hussain. The swirling conditions at the MCG added an extra dimension to the already towering challenge.

"It was pure elation to get it, I didn’t want everyone to come and not get the record"

“After I didn't get a hand on the first practice and then the next one went straight through my gloves there was cause for concern,” Healy said. “You don’t get the cue from the ball going up in the air off the bat and it was swinging a lot on the way down because it just gets dropped.”

“As you can tell in the video, it was pure elation to get it, I didn’t want everyone to come and not get the record so when I’d secured it in the gloves I carried on like a bit of a pork chop, but overjoyed to break the record.”
