Nasir, Anwar help UAE pip Canada

UAE gets the better of Canada for the second time in two days at the ICC WCL Championships
United Arab Emirates beat Canada by two wickets in match 46 of the ICC World Cricket League Championships played at the Maple Leaf-North West Ground  in King City on Thursday (August 8).

Rizwan Cheema, the right-arm pacer, kept Canada in the hunt by picking up four wickets, but Shaiman Anwar made a patient 93-ball 57 to pilot UAE's chase, even as wickets continued to tumble. Aziz held his nerve to remain unbeaten on 11 as UAE crossed the line with seven balls to spare.

Canada, who was sent in to bat, started positively with Hiral Patel and Ruvindu Gunasekara adding 37 for the opening wicket before Shadeep Silva broke through in the seventh over. Patel struck partnerships with Usman Limbada and Ashish Bagai to steady the Canadian innings before the batting collapse. Aziz, the offspinner, picked up four wickets while Silva bagged three to stifle Canada, who was eventually finished on 179 for 9 in 50 overs.

UAE started well courtesy Abdul Shakoor and Arshad Ali before Henry Osinde accounted for the wicket of Shakoor. Cheema and Junaid Siddique kept striking at vital times to keep Canada in the hunt. The duo picked up seven wickets among themselves to set up a close finish. But Anwar helped allay fears of a loss as UAE eventually got the better of Canada for the second time in two days.
