Sponsored by the ICC’s category partner Dream11, the tournament features the cream of local cricketers as well as established national team stars. UAE head coach Robin Singh will be in attendance and taking notes of the talent on display, after his successful outing with the Mumbai Indians in the recently concluded Indian Premier League.

The D20, which began on 6 December, brings together six teams over the course of 33 games with the final scheduled for Christmas Eve. A successful example of UAE local cricket using the international-standard facilities available in the Emirates, the matches will all be played at the Dubai International Stadium and will be live-streamed to fans across various platforms including social media.

Nigeria to host national series as Gurusinha touches down

Nigeria looks set to continue their momentum after last week’s announcement of Sri Lanka international Asanka Gurusinha as head coach, with 36 players from around the country assembling in Abuja from 9 December in a three-team series showcasing talent to the new mentor. The triangular matches will run until the 13th and are set to be followed by a training camp as Gurusinha continues to familiarise himself with the state of the game in Nigeria.

Namibia continues local development efforts

The Kwata Mini Cricket programme received a funding boost as Cricket Namibia (CN) linked up with a local investment firm. The Kwata programme brings cricket to remote and underprivileged communities in Namibia and combines the sport with positive messages around health and education; national team bowler Ben Shikongo is among its success stories, having been introduced to the sport through a Kwata session. Running for over a decade now, Kwata has been recognised by UNICEF’s Namibia office, and CN hopes that the extra funding will allow them to reach an ambitious target of 50,000 children over the next year.
