The off-spinner Nishan Peiris has been called up to the Sri Lanka Test squad as a replacement for Akila Dananjaya, who was reported for a suspect action in the first Test against England.
Dananjaya is set to undergo an assessment at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane on Friday. He was given 14-days to respond to the charge, which allowed him to feature in the second Test. The mystery spinner claimed eight wickets in the match, and contributed a vital 31 with the bat in the first innings.
Peiris, 21 years old, has only featured in 12 first-class games, but has picked up 38 wickets at 29.52, including two five-wicket hauls. In his last first-class outing, for Galle against Kandy, he picked up first innings figures of 6/67.
Peiris has represented Sri Lanka Under 19s and Sri Lanka A in the past, and has form against England, having picked up three wickets in a warm-up game against them before this series.
Sri Lanka’s third Test against England starts in Colombo on 23 November.
